Talking Threads
Practical project in response to the research on the use of embroidery by women globally and throughout history; in many cases, embroidery was their only way to make their voice heard, as it allowed women to represent their own realities and communicate their thoughts and feelings. This research inspired me to create a typeface based on embroidery stitches that work as a code. I translated several stitches into icons and allocated them to letters of the alphabet to form the code, created the typeface, and printed a risograph publication to showcase it. |
Cypher wheel that will allow readers to decypher the quotes in the publication and create their own.
